Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif seems to have inspired a character in
director Pan Nalin’s latest film, which was the first runner-up at the
Toronto International Film Festival.
Incidentally, in the film, Amrit Maghera plays the role of an actor who comes to India to try her luck in the industry, but can’t speak Hindi. Katrina, too, moved to Mumbai to make it big in Bollywood back in the early 2000s. Her inability to speak Hindi fluently made headlines on several occasions at the time.
Confirming the story, Pan says, “Katrina is a hugely successful star in India, and when we were writing the movie, one character seemed to be following her career graph. Even though we haven’t shown Katrina’s entire journey, we surely were inspired by it. We had Amrit play the role of a girl, who, despite facing many cultural and lingual hindrances, migrated to India from London, UK, to make a career out of acting.”
