Salman Khan, Sonam Kapoor’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo song is so ’90s

The last time we saw Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan together was in 1999’s Hum Saath Saath Hain. It is 2015 now but everything about the duo’s forthcoming Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is stuck firmly in the ’90s.

The title track of the film was released on Wednesday and just like the film’s trailer, promo and poster before it, it took us back in time. It just seems as if the makers picked a few videos from the 90s, repackaged them and added the faces of Salman and Sonam Kapoor for the number. Clad in gorgeous royal attire, Sonam Kapoor even dances to ‘classical’ steps from the 90s in the song.

The title song of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has been sung by Palak Muchchal. Irshad Kamil, who has penned the number, has given it a ‘bhajan-like’ flavour and Himesh Reshammiya’s dated music only adds to the effect.
Everything from the choreography to the sets reminds one of songs like Ghoonghat Ki Aad Mein, which was filmed on Juhi Chawla and Aamir Khan in the 90s hit Hum Hain Raahi Pyar Ke. From lead actors peeping from ‘jharokhas’ to the passé dance moves, we have seen all of it before.
Speaking at the song launch, Barjatya said, “This song is very precious to me as it has the title in it. It is beautifully written by Irshadji and melodiously composed by Himeshji. It is our homage to Meerabai bhajan Ram Ratan Dhan Payo.”

Sooraj and Salman have earlier given hits like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Saath Saath Hain and Hum Aapke Hai Koun. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is slated to release on November 12, 2015.
