Since last few years utility vehicle is the most loved segment among
Indian car buyers. The segment is also facing tough tangle with other
segments such as compact hatchback and C-segment cars. However, the
month of September has not been very exiting specially for Utility
Vehicles in particular as the segment saw a fall in sales by 8.56 per
cent. In domestic market 48,464 units of utility vehicle were sold in
the month of September while compared to 53,003 units in the same month
last year.

Despite of the pressure on the segment, utility vehicles like Hyundai Creta continue to buck the negative sales trend. Hyundai sold 7,256 units of Creta maintaining the momentum of strong sales at top position. Following Creta, Mahindra Bolero holds second position an undisputed leader of the past is now defeated by Creta. Mahindra sold 5,585 units of Bolero in September month as compared to 8,541 units in the same month last year. The fall in sales of Bolero is may be due to low rainfall in rural areas.

Looking at distribution network of Mahindra and its penetration in Tier-I & Tier II cities the newely launched TUV300 got a moderate response from market as the company sold merely 4,321 units of TUV300 in last month. However, TUV300 pushed Ertiga from the top five utility vehicles list. Other reasons of Ertiga moving out from top selling list is that the Maruti is planning to launch Ertiga face lift anytime soon.

On other hand, riding high on the growth of fleet industry and taxi business the Toyota Innova continue to maintain its strong sales of 5,430 units at third position. Mahindra Scorpio managed to jump into top selling utility vehicle at fifth position with 4,313 units.
