At least 15 people were injured on Wednesday, including cops, when
Sikhs from various organisations clashed with police over an alleged
incident of sacrilege in Faridkot.
Police used batons and fired in the air to quell the protests in which activists of various Sikh organisations were injured besides policemen. The situation is tense but under control in the district and a heavy police force has been deployed to maintain law and order.
Some places in Faridkot and its adjacent Moga have been tense for some days after the alleged sacrilege took place. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal have appealed to the people to maintain peace. Badal said the guilty would not be spared.
