After Cyanogen struck an exclusive deal with Micromax in India, OnePlus
One users in the region were left wondering as to what the future would
hold for them with regards to software updates. OnePlus came up with an
answer for this as it started developing a new ROM called Oxygen OS for
the handset.
A new report now suggests that this ROM will merely be a second choice for OnePlus One users here in India, as the CyanogenMod 12S update will be reportedly sent out to Indian units as well.
The revelation was made by the founder of OnePlus, Carl Pei, who mentioned that the CM 12S OTA will be rolled out to the handset much like the global models.
It's enough confirmation since it's coming directly from a top company official, although he didn't share details on how this came to be. Cyanogen was pretty adamant on honoring its newly formed agreement with Micromax, so we still don't know what made Cyanogen change their mind.
Perhaps the two companies talked it out behind closed doors, understanding the complications of asking users to flash a separate ROM from scratch. Downloading and installing the Oxygen OS ROM meant that customers had to do a fresh install.
This was clearly asking a lot of the customers, so the company has made a wise call to let the Android 5.0 update install automatically. The CM 12S update for the OnePlus One is expected to roll out by the end of March, so there might not be much waiting to do.
