GoPro adds Amazon to its growing list of distributors
Continuing its goal of becoming a full-fledged media company, GoPro has
expanded its streaming channel to Amazon's Fire TV and Fire TV stick
platform.
Rollout to Amazon's customers will begin today and is expected to be
finished by Tuesday. The channel will include content produced by GoPro
as well as user-generated videos culled from its GoPro Awards initiative.
Amazon Fire becomes the latest streaming platform to feature videos
from the tech company, which is seeking to expand from being solely a
camera maker to a full-fledged media company. Earlier this year, GoPro
landed on Roku and Comcast's Watchable platform, which is currently in beta.
For Amazon, adding GoPro's popular videos—its YouTube channel
alone counts over 3 million subscribers—gives Fire TV a new addition, a
few months after it released its newest version of the streaming
platform, just in time for the holidays. The new Fire TV platform
includes support for 4K Ultra HD and voice control via Alexa.
"Amazon customers are some of the most engaged users in the world when
it comes to the amount of streaming content they consume. Because of
this, we are thrilled to bring the GoPro Channel directly to them on
Amazon devices," said Adam Dornbusch, GoPro's head of content
distribution. "The GoPro experience on Amazon Fire TV will make it
simple for users to watch GoPro originally produced and 'best o'
user-generated content, and also learn about which capture devices,
mounts and accessories were used to shoot the awesome footage."
